beta Discussing the Digital Government Declaration

[...] Many things have changed since the Malmö declaration on e-government. The financial crisis has evolved into a prolonged period of high unemployment and sluggish growth. Populist parties are on the rise. And there has been a palpable and trackable decrease in the level of trust that citizens place in national and European institutions.
Rufo Guerreschi
If we want e-government to responsibly develop in Europe, we need to stop the outright lying about the level of confindetiality and integrity that eIDAS, and the like sof Estonia e-Residency solutions, provide in the current threat landscape, and get to work to build reasonably trustworthy techs for all.

Worth making a parallel between citizen lack of trust in national institutions and their lack of trust in large multi-national private sector organisations that, for example, do not perhaps pay the level of global taxes they should. Contrast that with the trust that people are still willing to invest in social media platform giants like Google, Facebook and Microsoft... people forgive a lot for simple useability and convenience. Most of all, they trust their own network of peers that they know to be 'authentic'.

Lack of trust concerns all types of traditional institutions - the business, government, NGOs, and traditional media. Governments should develop new innovative approaches together with the other traditional institutions also based on digital means to put the people at the center of everything they do and thus rebuild trust in the system.

Decrease of trust in institutions may interpreted in many different ways. We are witnessing today palpable changes in social cohesion that are not necessarily consequences of a crisis of national and European institutions but rather causes thereof. It is useful to bear it in mind when using that decrease of trust as a motivation for digital government.

As said by Giovanna, don't restrict to national and EU institutions. Also traditionnal journalist have lost crédits. The complexity of live is facing the speed of Internet. Mainly unverified informations survives. Please rephrase to have a more global perspective of this distrust.
